I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying art from either an artist's point of view or an art lover's perspective (or both).
This month has been a challenge. I've had some health issues that have cost me valuable painting time, and I submitted one of my best works to critique by Iain Stewart, and he tore it to pieces. I wish I could say I disagreed with his suggestions, but I felt his ideas had enough merit that I decided to paint the picture again, making the suggested changes and comparing the two before I choose the painting for the next show I plan to enter.
I don't usually paint the same painting twice. Some painters say that their initial work is only a prelude to subsequent efforts, and that their paintings continually improve as they repeat the subject over and over. For me, however, I feel that my subsequent efforts are stale and uninspired. I have, however, solved some design questions, so perhaps my second effort will be worthwhile.
