It's been awhile since I had my first article published in Watercolor Artist Magazine.
At the time, it seemed so easy. I wrote my article and Paul Jackson told me where to send it. It was accepted. It was published. I got paid. Woo-hoo!
I have written several articles since that time. None of them struck the editor's fancy.
While none of the articles made it to print, I never received the quintessential rejection letter. Instead, I got the gentle let-down. Still, those articles were never published.
I suppose I should have written more articles and sent them, but I felt funny doing that because I didn't want to be a pest.. Looking back, I guess that was kind of silly. After all, I'm not getting any younger.
Still, about a year ago I sent in an article on negative painting. To my delight, the editor of the magazine replied with a yes!
The article was to be published in the September issue of Watercolor Artist Magazine. Aaaah! But about this time, the magazine decided to drop two issues per year, now publishing only quarterly. My article was pushed to December.
I was disappointed, of course, but payment arrived, so I was pretty sure it would be published eventually. And then I received a letter telling me that my article had been postponed until the Spring issue. Sigh!
However, just last week I received two copies of the Spring issue, and sure enough, there was my article on page 10. Wahoo! at last!
If you are not a subscriber to Watercolor Artist, you should be able to find a copy at any store that carries magazines. Look for the Spring 2022 issue.

Much of my painting time has been taken up with preparing the images for the Spring Watercolor Society of Oregon show. I handle the online submissions, organizing them and sending them to the juror.
I check each image to be certain it is sized correctly, and track size data, along with show eligibility. The show entries close this evening (Tuesday), so the images will go to the juror sometime this week. Good luck, artists!
This spring's show will be at the Brookwood Library in Hillsboro and will be open for public viewing beginning April 2 and through the month. |
